Creamed Spinach with Mushrooms

Creamed spinach is traditionally served in South African steak houses as a vegetable side. My family’s favourite!


  • 1 bunch of swiss chard or bag of baby spinach
  • 1 x 200 ml Ina Paarman's Ready to Serve Mushroom Sauce
  • Ina Paarman's Lemon & Black Pepper Seasoning

Wash the spinach well in cold water to remove all possible grains of sand. Place the wet leaves into a saucepan over medium heat. Cover with a lid and wilt the spinach for 5 minutes. There is enough water clinging to the leaves to prevent it from burning.

Chop the wilted spinach in a processor. Add the cold Sauce and blend in with a few on/off pulses in the processor. Season to taste. Reheat in the microwave and serve.



Use Ina Paarman’s Ready to Serve Cheese Sauce in place of Mushroom Sauce.

Ina's Tip

Instead of wilting the spinach in a saucepan, cook it in a microsteamer in the microwave.
