The ultimate posh toasted ham and cheese sandwich. Filling enough for a main meal if served with a substantial salad. The ham can be replaced with thinly sliced chicken.

You will need

8 slices of home style white bread or ciabatta
4T (60ml) butter, melted
Dijon Mustard
1 x 200ml Ina Paarman’s Ready to Serve Cheese Sauce
½ cup (125ml) grated cheddar cheese
4 slices of Deli ham, Gypsy is good
Ina Paarman’s Chilli & Garlic Seasoning


Adjust the oven shelf to one slot above the middle.
Preheat the oven to 220°C.
Line a baking sheet with baking paper.
Lay the bread slices in a single layer on the lined baking sheet. Brush the slices with the butter, then flip them over, buttered side down. Spread the second side of each slice with the mustard. Squeeze about 2 T (30ml) of the Cheese Sauce on top of 4 of the slices, sprinkle with grated cheese.
Top the remaining 4 slices with the ham, drizzle the ham with remaining Cheese Sauce, season lightly with Chilli & Garlic Seasoning.
Place in the oven for ± 10 minutes, until the sauce is bubbling and just beginning to brown and the bottom of each bread slice is crisp and golden. Remove the pan from the oven and, using a spatula, marry each of the ham topped slices with a cheese topped slice.
Serve immediately.
