The Princess Snake Cake

This is the ideal cake to bake for a class party. It can easily be cut into slices. For a boy use Vanilla and Chocolate Cakes. Ice with Chocolate Icing and contrast with Vanilla Icing. Give him a golden crown and call it The Royal Snake Cake. Do watch our 1 minute video with the birthday child.

1 x 600 g Ina Paarman’s Vanilla Cake Mix
3 extra large eggs at room temperature
¾ cup (180 ml) canola oil
1 cup (250 ml) fresh full cream milk, warmed

¼ cup (60 ml) butter, melted
¾ cup (180 ml) fresh full cream milk, warmed
1 x 580 g Ina Paarman’s Red Velvet Cake Mix

2 x 250 g Ina Paarman’s Vanilla Icing Kit
250 g butter at room temperature
½ cup (125 ml) water

1 x 250 g Ina Paarman’s Strawberry Icing Kit
125 g butter at room temperature
¼ cup (60 ml) water

1 x 250 g Ina Paarman’s Chocolate Icing Kit
125 g butter at room temperature
¼ cup (60 ml) water

2 pink chocolate hearts
pink cake crystals
soft white pearls
a pink necklace for the crown
red tube icing for the month
10 pink candles

2 brown smarties
gold cake crystals
soft white pearls
fake gold necklace for the crown
red tube icing for the month
10 white candles

Adjust the oven rack to middle position and preheat oven to 180°C. Butter a 25 cm round loose bottom ring cake tin.

Mix Vanilla Cake according to box instructions and bake for 35 minutes. Turn out on a cooling rack.

Rebutter the pan.

Mix the Red Velvet Cake according to box instructions and bake for 30 minutes. Turn out onto a cooling rack.

Allow both cakes to cool completely before icing.

In separate bowls mix the Vanilla and Strawberry icings according to pack instructions.

In the winter when the butter sets more, you still have to add a little more hot water.

Cut both cakes into halves and divide one of the halves into quarters.

Cover a large board with baking paper and some thin netting, toile or muslin.

Join the cake pieces together in the form of a snake. Connect with white icing.

Shape the head and tail.

Place blobs of Vanilla Icing along the length of the cake. Using a small palette knife (dipped in a mug of boiling water every so often) spread the icing along the length and down the sides of the cake.

Pipe random lines of Strawberry Icing over the cake and feather them with the palette knife.

Support the crown with 5 toothpicks dipped into icing. We just used a cheap pink fake pearl necklace wound around the toothpicks in a spiral shape.

Use pink chocolate hearts for the eyes and a line of red write-on icing gel for the mouth.

Go to town and sprinkle the cake with decorative cake pearls and pink crystals.

Position birthday candles along the length of the body.
